Hey Guys. I have a question. I have a hard rubber, black mouthpiece, that says C* on the side of the chamber. I know it is not a Selmer C*, because of the shape of the MP. Anyone know of a different brand of MP that says C* on the side of it? Thanks. Also, Rico Select Jazz Reeds are really good, right? I got some of the unfiled ones.
jody jazz do a c*
All the Reed brands sold in music stores
are Ok (imho).
The main problem is finding your own brand
and correct reed size that works for your mouthpiece.
Johnny can advise on the size of reed to start out,
or you can read the info on his website.
There was a point in playing where i thought
some brands were the best but then i later
realised it was the reed not the brand!
At the moment i’m using a classical mouthpiece
setup & not a jazz mouthpiece setup – there
is a big difference between the two.
And for me the normal vandorens work
better than the ricohs, when i was using a
jazz setup it was the other way round.
But the annoying thing is, you can pickup
the odd reed in any brand and it can upset
the whole apple cart!
Welcome to the world of sax setups..
Reeds are a totally personal thing, what’s the best reed for me might not be great for you. Too many variables involved. Each one of us has to experiment with as many different treed types and strengths until we find which one works best.
maybe its a Otto Link
There are no other engravings or markings on the mp except on the side of the Chamber, which says “C*” just like that.
