I am 46 years old and started playing saxophone in december 2010.

I started with alto and my actual horn ( the third) is a H. Couf Royalist with an Otto Link STM 5* and Queen 3 1/2 reeds.

In the beginning of this year i baught a Hammerschmidt Klingsor tenor horn and i play it with an Otto Link STM 6 and Vandoren Java 2 1/2 reeds. I think i should better use a “bigger” MP because the sound is not so well.

My kind of music is swing, jazz, blues, rock but also klezmer and sometimes classic stuff.

O.K. this should be all for now.

      Cheers to you all.

        Sounds good…
If you’re striving for a bigger sound you might want to look at your set up again.
You had an otto 5 with 3 1/2 reeds now you have a 6 with 2 1/2 reeds.
I would suggest a slightly more open mp with #3 reeds.
Everyone is different but 3 1/2 is pretty hard no matter the mp.
        Give this a try.

        all the best

3 1/2 sounds harder than they are. The strength is comparable to vandoren Java 2 1/2.

On my tenor i tried java #3 but with the #6 mp the low c sounds bad (a bit like bubbling).

I will try more mps when i am in hamburg this fall.

          Thanks for the reply.

Hello, I’m new to this site and even newer to the sax. I have been wanting to play for years and never got started. So, I went out and purchased an alto sax and trying to learn how to play as well as the sax lingo. So bare with me as I learn.
