Hi Johnny,
The nerve of youtube….they blocked 2 of your Beatles videos “I Feel Fine” and “A Day in the Life”. I don’t understand why they would block those 2 songs in particular and not the other 2 songs? I Feel Fine was my favorite Beatles Sax song too! Have you uploaded it to Vimeo? Don’t think there’s ever been copyright claims, etc. happening on Vimeo?September 19, 2017 at 7:35 am #59709Anonymousi don’t use vimeo, too much graphic pornography on there website that kids can see.
September 19, 2017 at 8:11 am #59712yes I post a lot of videos to Vimeo and also Dailymotion.
it’s not actually youtube that blocks them it’s software created by the copyright owner’s that triggers when one of their works is identified.
this software is obligatory to be in place on youtube by the publishing companies who look for videos that could be making some real money for someone and are making sure they get their share…I’m not one of those!when this happens youtube sends an automated email saying an ownership claim has been given and gives a link to which I tick the box that says it’s my
own version of such song and that’s the end of it. this happens on almost every song I upload which is about 100 so far and there’s only been 3 or 4 that have an actual block so those aren’t terrible odds.
I can still have the Vimeo version on my website. I could also fight the claim and eventually get the ban removed but I don’t have the time or interest.September 19, 2017 at 8:27 am #59714Might be good to put the Vimeo links here on your site for those 2 songs? Vimeo/dailymotion doesn’t get as many views as youtube, does it? I know for my new work in fly fishing for bass, etc. that I do (shared the website with you a few months back) I’ve gotten a ton of views from folks on twitter/linked to facebook, rumble.com, etc. without even using youtube.. The ‘fly fishing for bass’ that I’m doing grew so fast that people wanted me to expand on other things like Panfish, Gar, Trout, etc., so the website is under construction/modification right now–having to have it made for me; very time consuming to do it on my own!
September 19, 2017 at 9:31 am #59718AnonymousJust being going through all the tracks on here, and worked it out, i need to buy 13 more! aaahh
September 19, 2017 at 5:10 pm #59729I’m impressed that you got most of my tracks!
Michael as for those other video sites, no they don’t even come close to the numbers on youtube that’s why those copyright companies don’t bother with them. you make a good point ho, using all other social sites can really help…it’s not just about being on youtube even tho it’s the biggest.September 19, 2017 at 6:31 pm #59734I think it’s just the outdoor world and music world are 2 totally different cultures–different social media sites work great for different things. I know of some folks who put up a lot of fly fishing stuff on youtube and do really well v.s. others who just use different social media platforms and are doing awesome.
September 19, 2017 at 7:05 pm #59737Talking about different cultures–here’s a quick video me and my son did a few weeks back(this is non-saxophone related) and uploaded it/shared it to facebook with our state Game and Fish Dept.. They asked me if they could put it on their home page and it got over 5,000 views in 1 day on facebook! A couple of days later they messaged me and asked me if I would be interested in doing some classes to teach folks how to catch them because they had been looking for someone to teach anglers about fly fishing for Gar–no one was doing it here. The Gar on this video was 42.5 inches long…I’ve landed them on a fly rod up to 58 inches long–it’s insane to say the least! The video I attached here was uploaded to youtube shortly after that experience, pretty cool 🙂 I have my state license to guide, teach, etc. (have been using the time I’ve had to get this going while I recovered from my Oral Cavity disorder). All’s I did was upload a simple video to their facebook page and now it turned into classes/modest little income 🙂 I was just doing bass only like my new website I shared with you was all about, but after this experience, our State Game & Fish Dept. here started asking me to teach them about panfish, trout, etc. and not just bass, so I’m having to modify my website to meet that demand….all of this because of sharing a simple video on their facebook page. But it’s a different culture than the music world for sure.
Talking about music, I’ll be uploading Mack the Knife soon, getting close to being back to normal with my playing; practice has been going really, really good 🙂 I talked to my instructor I was working with before everything happened with my Oral Cavity disorder a couple of weeks ago….we’re really looking forward to getting together to resume lessons! His goal is to ‘pick up where we left off’ 🙂 He’s the one who encouraged me to get my mind off of my frustration & take the time to do other things I enjoy while I go through the recovery process, and it’s worked out really well…so, so looking forward to playing with the Blues Society again 🙂
September 20, 2017 at 12:17 am #59744AnonymousHi Michael, nice video but where is the sax soundtrack for the video? You could play the theme tune from ‘Jaws’.
And I thought Pike was a scary fish! I think you need a bigger boat!
September 20, 2017 at 1:36 am #59747Anonymous@Michael – i watched your Gar video sometime ago, and i must say you are a natural at showing how its done. Milk it for all its worth!
People often fit into three categories
1) they’re great at teaching how to do the job, but useless at doing the job
2) they’re great at doing the job, but useless at teaching how to do the job
3) they’re great at both doing the job and teaching how to do the job.Michael you fit in the third category!
