Hello.
I’m new here & wonder how many takes it took Johnny to perfect his versions of videos such as Peter Gunn.
PLEASE do not tell me that they were all first takes!
I have been playing tenor for more years than I care to mention & admire many past & present tenorists….but Johnny is the player who I most admire…..playing exactly how I wish to play.
Is there a CD available containing the numbers shewn on Youtube?February 11, 2015 at 12:54 pm #13555No my name is NOT Johnny “first take” Ferreira! I wish it was.
What I do is spend some time really learning the tune, arrangement etc.
Then start recording it. I can take my time and do several takes because I’m in my own home studio.
When I have a few that I can live with I just pick the one I like best.
There are some that are first takes tho.I’ve worked with many name artists in the recording studio and very few can do that.
A big time producer I worked with Tom Dowd who recorded such artists as Eric Clapton, Leanord Skynard, Allman Brothers, Ray Charles, John Coltrane and many mere. He told us that the only person who could do a perfect 1st take was Aretha Franklin. There’s no reason anybody should feel bad about doping it over and over again.

it’s taken me a month to get from 66 bmp to 86 bpm, and i need to get up
to at least 110 bmp. When i get upto 110 bpm then i can bring in the backing track!
I’m definitely not sxpoet “first take” lolFebruary 12, 2015 at 1:25 pm #13564Wow, that’s awesome to be able to work with big name artists like that Johnny! I know on your other site of johnnyferreira.com I had seen a pic of you standing with ZZ Top, I love their music 🙂 This is a good topic to post and I think it serves as a great lesson for all of us as student players.
February 13, 2015 at 5:24 am #13565It is a comfort to know that Johnny spends time rehearsing & arranging these numbers….had he just busked them as a first take then it would be time for me sell my horns. 🙂
Johnny’s playing is what the tenor sax is all about.
