this January i’ve just started paying more attention to dynamics.
I went back to my instructor and said “heres a simple piece of music,
dead easy 4/4 time 60 bpm all 1/4 notes no problem with timing etc..”
“But it goes F , P, FF, MP, MF etc..”
“my problem is these are all different levels of loudness or softness if
you want to look at it that way, and they can gradually or suddenly
increase in loudness – my problem to be more exact is although i
know roughly what soft , normal and loud playing is, Its the fiddly
in between volumes like mf, mp which get lost in the mist”

My instructor said to practice playing a scale of 8 notes (low c to mid c)
play low c as soft as possible
      play f normally
play high c as loud as possible
basicaly play it increasing in volume uniformly.
Then do it the other way high to low.

The other alternative is to play one note on its own,
from soft to loud and the reverse.

Then from that you can get a feel for the different dynamics – f,mf,p,mp,pp etc..

Question – is there any other way of getting the feel for what most of the
      levels of loudness should be?
