I tried to find female sax players that
        played harlem nocturne on youtube,
        but failed!
        It’s a shame the Ventures didn’t put
a sax in there! i’d love that as a backing
        track!

The great thing about Harlem Nocturne is if you go on youtube,
you can find a lot of non-professional players
out there who play that piece quite well,
and are just as enjoyable to listen to.
Players seem to fall into 3 categories,
some play it in their own style,
some just copy the way other people play,
i fall in the 3 rd categorie. lol
Either way, i’m looking forward to your backing track Johnny!
I don’t mind if its easy or hard to play along to!
If its hard, it gives me something to look forward to
when my playing gets to a better level.
Got my 1st public appearance in a church band next
sunday, got 3 harmony pieces, and only got a
half hour practice with the band before playing.
Couldn’t make the practice session the week before,
so i got a lot of practice thus week!

Hi Johnny, I think I read somewhere in a forum message that you were doing a backing track and music for Harlem Nocturne. If this is the case what key for alto will you do it in as I am looking to get a head start and not wanting to make life hard later on…..Cheers

Yes I will definately do a backing track for Harlem Nocturne and it will be fairly soon. I have checked out the keys everyone’s doing it in and they are all over the place so not sure yet. I usually do the same key for alto and tenor but for this one it may have to be one key for each, I don’t know yet because I still need to experiment a bit with it.

With all this Harlem Nocturne “fever” that it looks like lots of Members have right now and the “suspense” of seeing how Johnny’s own release will go, let’s not forget about all the fantastic music that he does have right now……like “Samba Pa Ti” on Alto Sax 🙂 Hoping to be “reunited” with my Tenor in time soon as I’m over here in New Mexico dealing with a family emergency. Everyone here LOVES Johnny’s songs on Alto Sax! Cool to be able to come back over here and do this for them…..they wanted to hear Tequila but the Tenor is at home 🙁

I’ve already got a backing track for harlem nocturne in one of the sax music books i bought months ago.
it’s ok, but i’m looking forward to see what Johnny can produce.
One thing i’ve noticed with backing tracks, they often don’t sound so good
when you transpose them to a different scale.

Michael, you can play tequila on alto!
@sxpoet, If the tracks were all done using MIDI then they’ll sound ok transposed but if they’re regular audio you can only transpose a tone or 2 before they start to sound weird.
