      40 years ago I didn’t get a choice on the mouthpiece for my Yamaha Alto Saxophone YAS21. I am sure the band teacher picked it out. It is a Selmer Goldentone 3. I haven’t ever used anything else and it has also done fine. Now that I am playing again I am toying with buying a Yamaha 4C mouthpiece or even a Yamaha 5C. I would classify my playing level at intermediate. Anyone have any experience with these mouthpieces? If so thoughts? Mainly playing the type of music Johnny has the sheet music for Rock & Roll or the oldies.

        My first saxophone was alto with a Yamaha 4c which was ok then i decided take the plunge and get a better m/p even though i was just at the learning stage, i bought the Meyer NY SPECIAL EDITION and what a difference to my sound, everyone remarking on the sound and tone of it. What i say to you go for the best do not mess about moving up in stages just get a good one and stick with it. I kept the Meyer and still have it today in case i get a Alto one day.

          Hi Sheila, i found a alto Brillhart ebonite in any old Walburg tenor sax case – have had a little while back, it is a real gem, tonemaster, size rubbed off, works good, i believe they are a great mp at a good price, suggest check ebay and Amazon? Better than th Yamaha C’s tonewise i’ve read ..

            If you browse the internet for reviews on Meyer mouthpieces, many people claim Meyer is the go to mouthpiece for the Alto saxophone. I have been playing a 9M and an 8M Meyer on Tenor and am really liking them.

              Thank you everyone for your advise. I purchased a Meyer NY SPECIAL EDITION 6M. I am loving it. Not quite at 100% control of it yet but will be soon. I am very happy. Thanks Again!
