I am very new to this, so new I am waiting on delivery of my sax. Have bought J’s book and just exited about starting to learn anything musical for the first time in my 46 years. Site is great and seems to support newbie like myself and so welcome the experience of others.

You’re exactly right about Johnny supporting new players–I’m right there with you. May marks a year I’ve been learning to play the Saxophone and Johnny’s ebook will give you a solid foundation on the fundamentals of the saxophone. Even a local band teacher who gets with me once-a-week on the and has been teaching me fundamentals of musical theory said I was in “good hands” with the saxophone. Nice to have you here mw6flyer!

Hi Johnny, thank you for the link which I have been able to download the ebook and have already started going through this to make myself more familiar with terms etc.

Thank you for the welcome Baboon, with reading everything on the site and looking through the book I certainly feel I am in “good hands” and a very supportive environment which will be a blessing when I know I am going to be frustrated in learning this instrument.

You may have heard some people say that the saxophone is “easy” to learn—-nothing could be further from the truth. If it were really that easy, then more people would be playing it, right? LOL Johnny knows that as were learning we’re going to make LOADS of mistakes/get frustrated at times, it’s all part of the learning process that we have to go through. We learn from them and we get better/grow. Check out some of the videos from members on the blog, lots of us started with Johnny from not knowing anything. You starting to learn to play the saxophone…..that already makes you way cool!

Hi mw6flyer- glad you found this site to share in the learning. It was a year into my learning before I found this site and began participating and studying all the Lessons. After week 3 after getting my sax I had just about decided the sax was not the instrument for me. I was very frustrated and could hardly practice 20 minutes before my embrochure gave out. But I was determined and stuck through that phase, and am glad that I did. So just as a encouragement to cheer you on- stick it out through those first few months, practice, practice, practice and the you will be happy with the results and your resolve to be an “awesome” sax musician…

Thanks for the insights to your experiences Sinclairde-signs it most gratifying to know people are there for the encouragement and the proverbial kick up the ass. I feel I am a fairly determined person and have achieved many things and this is one of my life long objectives which I have actually got round to starting. Look forward to being at least semi-proficient and with this site and people I feel I am in good company.
