I am considering purchasing this saxophone. Is this a good value and is is it a respectable sax among seasoned saxophonists? How does it compare to the TS-44
March 17, 2019 at 4:11 pm #83495Hi John–Which Sax are you thinking about purchasing? Your post doesn’t say which one. Have you checked out Johnny’s blog post on buying a Saxophone? https://www.howtoplaysaxophone.org/buying-a-saxophone/
March 17, 2019 at 9:08 pm #83501Informative! many tghanks
small typo here @Johnny viz depending on the model and weather / whether
just sayin’see Selmer High End Models $4,000 – $12,000
If this price range doesn’t scare you then look for a Selmer Mark VI, they feel and sound great. End of story.
Some other Selmer models within this price range are the Super Action 80 series and the Reference 36 and 54. These will vary in price ……. depending on the model and weather ——-they are American-made or French-made. Most players agree that the ones from Paris have a slightly warmer tone and so will pay a bit more money for them.

March 18, 2019 at 7:58 pm #83521Hi @John
Howz the guys face reflected in the bell?? Looks like he likes Java greens too (couple on floor).
Is this the same model on Amazon?
Can get it new delivered for 800 bucks less than what he is asking if so. Looks nice. Love to try before buying. I ain’t played one. Hey I don’t think this particular sax is made out of old brass Parisian plumbing but maybe sourced from the steets of Taiwan instead.https://www.amazon.com/Selmer-STS280-Saxophone-Outfit-Lacquer/dp/B001VNQENW
March 19, 2019 at 9:00 am #83540How goes it @JohnSpringer ?
Just to clarify i can get the STS280 delivered to my door for AUD$ 3k
the guy wants to much in the Reverb ad – and exchange rate of about 70 Aussie cents to the American dollar makes it clearly grossly overpriced !Have you considered a Yamaha? Nice one here on Gumtree i’m eyeing off meself …
What’s happening?

March 19, 2019 at 6:06 pm #83554Thanks for you feedback. Based on your comments I have concluded, the Sax is not immediately known to be junk but it was over priced. I have since found this one for cheeper
With you help I have concluded that this sax not known to be junk and I also like the color scheme (although I think it is made in Taiwan – does that make it a knock-off ? I am looking for the real thing)
March 19, 2019 at 7:31 pm #83555i would not buy it , there many more out the better and cheaper in price
March 19, 2019 at 10:29 pm #83557Usual sound advice from our @brothercavefish
Hey the link you posted is for an alto. Sorry I just assumed you were a tenor sorta guy. Lotsa peoples have both ‘though. More scope.
I believe Taiwanese horns ok and Chinese ones getting better. Life is better with Coca Cola I’m told lol as it is advertised as, the real thing.
What is your budget? Maybe post a wanted ad on line here and see what comes up. Some really lovely Conn’s about and Yamaha’s too. Cheers
