I just got home from the store tonight and the radio played this great song, haven’t heard it in quite a while. It’s got some real groovy Sax lines, would be a lot of fun to play on the Alto Sax 🙂 I think I’m hearing a combination of the Soprano and Tenor in this song?
Great song from the past!
oh ya! I played that in a club band way back when…many many nights!
good memories and yes, good sax in there.
I only focused on the tenor part but ya, sure sounds like he’s doubling
the harmony on a soprano on those intro lines.
Absolutely great stuff in here Johnny, I would imagine you really caught people’s attention with this song….I know it really grabbed my attention when I heard it on the radio! It’s just a really cool, groovy song 🙂 It would be a really fun project on the Alto. Sometimes it almost seems like the Alto Sax is becoming ‘extinct’ or something LOL When I got my Trevor James Saxophones, the Alto was actually my first choice. I can remember when I was out in New Mexico helping family that one guy at the music shop told me that I was wasting my money on a Pro Model Alto and that, quote, “all the best players in the world are Tenor players” That was pretty hilarious to hear 🙂 Here pretty soon I’m going to start learning your Sax cover to “Europa” and I’m doing it on the Alto Sax—I think that song would sound amazing on the Alto. This article you posted in the blog a couple years back on the Alto Sax was really cool too–thanks for posting it 🙂 I will also say this much…the Soprano is LOADS of fun and I’m SO glad I got one….many, many uploads coming with it too.
On a side note for this song of “Smoke From A Distant Fire”, I think I’m hearing something like the key of A? I tested some of the chords that I’m hearing with my wife’s Organ and it sure sounds like the Key of A, been focusing really hard on ear training.
I think Europa would sound great on alto… probably even suit it better than on tenor
