My names Alan … I am 65 this year . Having never played a musical instrument in my life m I decided in September last year to buy a Tenor Sax and teach my self to play ! After 6 weeks I realised that whilst I could play some notes and some tunes the tunes didn’t sound like they should !So I decided to have lessons once a week , which I am still doing . In the book I was learning from I had got to lesson 6 ……………well as soon as my teacher saw my book she made me tippex out all the letters that I had written in under each note and told me I needed to learn to read the notes from the stave !
Then to learn and practice all the exercises I hadn’t bothered with , because I just wanted to play the tunes ! Now 6 months later I am at the end of lesson 4 in the book m but understand the saxophone a lot better . I still play the tunes in the book but play them better. So now I am learning to understand all the notations etc etc ………The lessons are more classical based , so I look and play bits from this site to learn a different aspect and style . I have just downloaded a few of your backing tracks and sheetmusic ………..so I will just see how it goes.
Working on scales and arpaggios at the moment tongued and slurred…….boring but worth it !
Theres lots to learn…………..and I try to play at least an hour every day .
      Bye for now

Hi Alan – i’m from nottinghsm and started just over 2 yrs ago at the age of 56, the only differce is played guitar for over 40 yrs, so had a head start on theory – scales, chords, arpeggios etc..

But glad to hear you are having lessons – saves you from developing bad habits.
