I’m a happy camper today..ordered my USB Interface/mic/Green Screen this morning! 🙂 The mic I have coming is the Shure SM-57. Hey guys, on a side note with the Shure SM-57s, make sure if you ever look at getting one that you go through an Authorized dealer, there’s some ‘knock off’ models out there on ebay that are fake, they’re not the Shure SM-57. The Soprano I have coming is a Selmer that I will be pairing up with the Vandoren V16 MP. I got super, super excited this past week when, with the help of my Instructor, we finally found the reed that’s clicked AWESOME with the Vandoren MPs…the good ole Java Green Reeds 🙂 The projection on Tenor Sax was HUGE with this reed! I’m very, very excited 🙂 When we think about it, it only makes sense to pair up a Vandoren reed on a Vandoren Mouthpiece. I was using Rigotti Gold reeds for Tenor, great for metal MPs, but for some reason not very compatible with an Ebonite/Hard Rubber MP like Claude Lakeys or Vandoren. It’s AMAZING how just finding the right reed can make a HUGE difference. I’m all smiles right now 🙂 Uploads will start soon after my stuff comes in. I got to pick up some of Johnny’s new releases here shortly too….Ghost Riders will be PERFECT here in Arkansas…Johnny Cash is from Arkansas, folks here would love to hear Ghost Riders on the Sax 🙂 I wish Johnny would release a track/sheet music for ‘Sax in the Country’…it would be awesome here in the south 🙂

March 16, 2016 at 7:45 am #34521AnonymousHi Michael, have you ordered a straight or curved Soprano?
You were talking so much about blues I had to give it a try.
Have you listened to my St Louis Blues version yet?March 16, 2016 at 8:32 am #34522Hi Jeff,
It’s a straight Soprano, I tried a curved Soprano and hated it; felt way too small. The straight model felt much better to me ergonomically. I didn’t buy an expensive Soprano–even though it’s a Selmer, it would be considered a Student/Intermediate model; cost me about $800–in the world of Selmer Saxophones it’s a very good, solid Soprano for a student-model price. Another way to think of it would be to think of the equivalent to a Selmer Bundy Tenor SAx, a Yamaha YAS-23 Tenor Sax: good, solid Tenor Saxophones without costing loads of $. Pair them up with a high-quality MP/reed and you’re good to go for a long time to come; the rest of it is up to me and my own playing. It will be a few months before I upload anything on Soprano because I got to learn at least a couple of songs and as with anything new it takes a little practice–remember our first attempt of even just blowing a simple note? But like Johnny says in the video below, it just takes practice. I tried a Soprano a few months ago and loved it. I do plan on making regular use of it for sure, but I don’t plan on playing everything I know on it. I got it for certain style/types of music. To me, there’s things that sound good on the Alto, Tenor & Soprano and above all it’s just about having fun–that means different things to different people. I haven’t had the chance to check out the St.Louis Blues version yet, have had a lot going on locally with the Blues Society every week plus meeting with my Instructor every Monday and getting this Moondance Improvisation assignment that has to be ready by April 25th…thanks for the reminder! 🙂 I’ll check it out for sure later today before I forget LOLMarch 17, 2016 at 12:17 am #34582AnonymousHi Michael, I think you made a better choice going for the straight version. I bought a 2nd hand curved Soprano and they look cute and sound great, but they are not so easy to finger because of limited space. I tried a straight Soprano last week and there is more space for my hands. I wanted to play St Louis Blues on the Soprano but I changed to the Alto as it’s more comfortable to play. I’m focussing on the Alto at the moment because we have a couple of dates to play coming up and I want to be well practised. I’m playing some of Bob Mintzer’s Jazz etudes at present and these are my favourite tunes to play. Enjoy your new kit!
