      Hey guys,
The Sax covers here on Johnny’s site is growing with some good stuff to say the least 🙂 Was curious if you guys had a favorite Sax cover of Johnny’s. For me, it’s got to be The Watermelon Man, Use Me, I Was Made To Love Her and What Does It take….fantastic stuff.

It probably depends on your preferred music taste, Michael. I love the way Johnny is able to replicate the feel of the original track so at times you don’t even notice there are no vocals!!

My personal favourite is probably Aint No Sunshine but then I love anything in blues. What might be cool is if we could suggest tracks that Johnny might consider covering.

MMMM…that’s like trying to pick your favourite child. Can’t do that, love them all just as much. I have his entire catalogue of songs on my ipod playlist and they go round, and round and round in my car all the time!

JF said he was releasing some more blues I think this year. That would be great.

Thanks guys you make me feel very appreciated. I really mean it.
You know what? I love every tune that I do as well. I can’t work on a song I don’t like for a week just to hope someone pays me a few bucks for it.
The first bunch of tunes I put up were tracks I was using at a hotel lounge gig I did for a little bit. These were tunes I loved and wanted to play and enjoyed playing and guess what?…the customers listening enjoyed them every single night too and they showed it and so I knew it wasn’t just me. Believe me, the hotel didn’t want to see me go.
There are tunes I love but I know aren’t gonna work that well for playing on the sax over a backing track or with the band. so not every thing is possible to do but… almost everyday I think about it and do get some ideas that enough come through as winners. and so it goes.
There is a kind of recipe, it’s not a secret…we all love a good melody, soul, good feeling…reminds me of Memphis Soul Stew by King Curtis, another tune I love but wouldn’t work as a sax instrumental because I don’t want to rap, talk or sing in my videos!
Anyways, creating music, whether my own or just doing a version of someone else’s is my favorite thing so you can expect a lot more. I only wish there was more time to produce more but this stuff is very time consuming for each song from start to finish.
I always try to have something cooking on the back burner… still have one more instrumental featuring soprano before I return it to Massulo’s Music shop and that is King Curtis’ Soul Serenade, a real nice sax instrumental that Aretha ended up doing as well (since Curtis was her band leader at the time). Santana’s Europa is have baked. I’m almost finished a true gem of a classic late 50’s true rock and roll saxophone instrumental (how many tunes can you really say that for?) called Wild Weekend. The Rebel’s instrumental version had a lot of guitar soloing in the middle which kinda scared me but I figured out a good alternative around it which featured more sax. Also I’m thinking about doing some really cool guitar instrumental classics played on sax of course (think Duane Eddy, The Ventures etc) Hey, if it sounds good on guitar, it should sound just as good or better on sax!

“Soul Serenade”. I was just listening to “Soul Serenade” by King Curtis, and “Cleo’s Mood” by junior Walker & the All Stars. Looks and sounds like two fun songs to learn. And “Shot Gun” too.

Looking forward to the Rebels’ version of “Wild Weekend” for sax.I saw it on Youtube today. Duane Eddy tunes sound good too.
