My ‘salaxtion’ of saxes has increased by one.

Today I acquired a 2nd hand curved soprano which is a ‘Blessing’, and is surprisingly loud for it’s small size.

So my collection of sound effects is a Tenor, Alto and Soprano!

Congrats on that new family member!!!
I’m strongly considering a soprano… I love its mellow, sweet sound.

Thanks Marc, the reason I acquired one, was because our little band consists of a Tenor Sax, Bb trumpet and me on Alto Sax. The Soprano is also a Bb instrument which means we can now all play in the same key. Also the trumpet is in the similar tone range as the Alto. By exchanging the Alto for a Soprano our group can cover a greater tone range. Hopefully that will make our music more interesting to the listener.

The embouchure is different from the Tenor and Alto, so I’m hoping to develop my skill a little quicker by practicing the three different MP techniques.
The tenor has helped my playing on the Alto a great deal, and I’m hoping that the Soprano playing will do the same. My wife still prefers the Tenor sound.
