Hey everyone,
My name is Matt I am from a small town in Georgia called Loganville. I’m 30 years old (will be 31 on 11/25!) I’ve been playing saxophone since 1997 and got out of playing it around 2005, and now I’m back into it. I recently found Johnny’s page on YouTube and have been loving it. I wish I had access to these resources back when I was learning. I’m excited about learning new styles and techniques on the sax and getting the opportunity to chat with other sax enthusiasts.November 4, 2015 at 5:10 pm #27522Hi Matt,
How far is Loganville from Ellijay? My wife and I used to live in Georgia and we lived in Ellijay, about an hour or so north of Atlanta. Very beautiful area to say the least. Last year, we took a quick trip to Atlanta and drove via Interstate 1-40 from Alabama to Georgia…I had forgotten just how “green” Georgia is…absolutely fabulous coloration in that state. My oldest son was born in Dalton, we didn’t like the hospital in Ellijay LOL Currently, we live in Little Rock, Arkansas. We’re planning on a trip out to your neck of the woods in time to come to hook up with old friends, would love to do some playing with you over there in Georgia 🙂 Nice to have you here on Johnny’s site, what Sax do you play?November 7, 2015 at 1:21 pm #27675Hey Michael. Loganville from Ellijay is about 2.5 or so. Loganville is on the Eastside from Atlanta headed towards Athens. North Georgia is very beautiful this time of year and I love going up there and seeing the colors change. I have four saxes, alto, tenor and two sopranos. I primary play alto & tenor. Which ones do you play and how do you like Little Rock?
November 7, 2015 at 5:03 pm #27679I’ve been to Athens before. I have a Trevor James Signature Custom Alto in Gold Lacquered and a Trevor James SR Tenor Saxophone, I’m definately looking at getting a Soprano Saxophone in time soon…no, I’m not a fan of Kenny G LOL Between my Alto and Tenor, I can’t say which one I like more, I get asked that all the time..for me, it’s literally a “coin toss” Not too many folks associate Rock and Blues with the Alto Saxophone…BIG mistake. I love this song below by Edgar Winter “Easy Street” on Alto Sax, I will be doing an Alto Instrumental of this song in time soon to come, getting the custom backing track and everything made for it 🙂 I put a video of the live performance and the mp3 on their album. We just moved into a new house and we’re getting everything arranged in the house, as soon as we’re done I’ll re-start my series of uploads; I have quite a few songs that I need to start uploading–I think I have around 20 songs or so I can upload LOL I won’t be using elaborate recording equipment, just a simple USB mic for now. I had to replace the USB mic I was using because of getting some weird, midi/robotic resonance in my voice, etc.. But I just replaced it with the exact same one and works great. Not sure what was wrong with the first one. We really love Little Rock, there’s something going on in the way of music all the time, plenty of places where you can take your Saxophone and play publicly. In terms of recording/uploading, how about you Mathew? Would love to hear an upload from you on Johnny’s blog as soon as you get comfortable. From reading your post, seems like you had been playing for awhile, very nice that you’re playing again. This time, don’t stop playing! 🙂

Edgar winter is a real talentNovember 10, 2015 at 5:35 pm #27883Hey Mike sorry for the late reply, but I’ve been working so much lately. My dad was a huge Johnny and Edgar Winter fan. Every time Johnny Winter came to Atlanta my dad and I would go see him at Smith’s Olde Bar in midtown. I live in the apartments right behind Smith’s so I’m always hearing music. The last time I saw Johnny Winter I was sitting on the stage while he was playing. The venue there is very very small, but I was lucky enough to get killer seats right on stage with Johnny Winter while he played, it was amazing. My dad had been seeing Johnny Winter since the 70’s and never missed a show. It was good to hear from you again, and hope to hear from you soon.
