The way I see it…
Playing is performing so to get the best performance we need to practise.
So playing is not practising.
When I play it’s with the intent to give my best possible performance.
To do that I need to go over the music carefully…stop and start over the more difficult parts etc as much as possible so when I’m performing it can all come together.
Playing (performing) and practicing are 2 different things.
I am preparing for a party this weekend, have 24 of your songs to play. I have been playing (practicing) the
difficult parts of the songs to get ready to play them the best i can. I do the same thing you do, stop and start
on the parts that need it. By the way your song collection is fantastic i am approaching having 200 of them wow!
wow Leo very impressive.
what I do as performance time closes in, play the tune from the top and at the very first mistake STOP, go over the problem, work it out then start from the beginning again. If you worked out the problem you should play that part good now, if not keep going over it till you don’t screw it up again.
My biggest challenge for the party is playing “Sonny” that third key change was brutal with nearly every note flat, but like you suggested I kept playing that part over and
over and now its not to bad, but have to say was happy to get to the forth key change (no flats or sharps) great song love the way you perform it.
