dionThe Wanderer Saxophone Music

Dion and the Belmonts was Dion’s band until 1960 after which he was known simply as Dion. Although The Wanderer was a hit in 1961 it had the doowop sound from the 50’s and so that’s why this song sounds more like it was recorded in the 50’s rather than having a 60’s sound.

Complete with one of the most recognizable saxophone solos of early rock and roll played by Buddy Lucas, an east coast session musician. He played on many recordings including Big Joe Turner, Frankie Lymon ( “Why Do Fools Fall In Love”), LaVern Baker, Paul Anka, Little Anthony and the Imperials (“Tears On My Pillow”), Big Maybelle, Bill Doggett, Ray Charles (“Busted”) and Aretha Franklin to name a few.

Our version made available here is in the key of D major. This is the same key as recorded by Dion and The Belmonts. This works out to be in E major for the tenor music and B major for the alto music chart.
