Playing the 3rd Octave High Bb

Here’s how to do it coming off of the high A

With some saxophones the High A can be played in tune with only using the 2nd and 3rd fingers of the left hand. If this means you, then your best option for the next Bb is to add the 1st and 2nd fingers of the right hand as shown below:

( Notes are 8va from what’s written)

Basic position 1

altissimo-A-Bb

If you’re only getting a very flat sounding high A and need to use the additional 2 fingers of the right hand then you will be adding the right hand D palm key:

Basic position 2

altissimo-Bb-B

Playing the 3rd Octave High B

Carrying on from Bb to B… If you’re successful at playing an in tune high Bb using only 4 fingers, try the move below to hit the B natural:

*Experiment with and without the side palm D

altissimo-Bb-B

Your 2nd option if the above position is too flat use the fingering below:

altissimo-Bb-B-1

This is a really simple move as it only requires adding the Eb palm key to go from the Bb to B natural.
